Thaddeus has prepared rehearsal notes for practice for the Sibelius Violin Concerto as follows:
1st Movement:
– Bar 1 & again at [7]: strings practise intonation
– Triplets after [1] & [8] in lower strings
– Bass pizz/arco changes after [2]
– Clarinet runs after [3]
– Viola solo after [3]
– Don’t miss 7 before [4] for cellos
– Cl/Bsn/Str – run after [6]
– Cellos 12 after [9], make sure you have the leaps
– Cellos after [9] practise intonation
– Vln II 9 before [10] practise these notes (if double stop is too hard play the upper/lower you normally do)
– 15 bars before that (double barline) all strings practise notes

2nd Movement
– winds practise opening rhythms – they are tricky to count.
– strings bar 13 onwards work out the pizz+the notes when you have the melody ([1] onwards)
– especially violas+cellos before [2]

3rd Movement
– [1] (and [6]) onwards (or from start for lower strings) practise this at crotchet = 110. Start slow if you can’t do it that fast immediately. The rhythm must be accurate.
– strings: practise all the rhythms after [2]. Everyone has different ones, you need to be confident.
– wind + 1sts + 2nds rhythms at [5]. Make sure demisemiQs aren’t early!
– [6] 1st 2nd nail the notes
– 3 bars after [13] practise the jump.
