1967 Frankston Music Society


Formed to promote music and start a Symphony Orchestra.

1967

Opening concert on June 30th 1967 featured the Cremona String Quartet and a talk by Professor Edwyn Hames a visiting American conductor who spoke about Orchestras in America. Musicians were Leonard Dommet, Sybil Copeland, John Glickman and Henry Wenig. I think they all were or had been Melbourne Symphony Orchestra musicians.
Opening number was Quartet in G Minor by Mozart. The orchestra was starting rehearsals at this stage. Various fund raising, musical and other activities were also taking place to publicise the formation of the orchestra.

October 1967.
A Variety concert at Mornington, involving several community groups, at which the newly formed FSO played two pieces.
